Interested in Starting a Company Based on Your Invention?
Introduction:
One strategy for commercializing University Technology is through inventor led start-up companies. An early question in the disclosure review process is whether or not the inventors want to start-up a company. If so, TED begins license negotiations directly with the start-up. Currently, there are three local companies that were started by former Michigan Tech personnel and have licensed technologies from Michigan Tech.

Particularly with the assistance of the Michigan Tech Enterprise SmartZone, the Office of Technology and Economic Development, as well as the whole Department of Corporate Services supports the creation of start-up enterprises locally and elsewhere. The Corporate Services Department maintains a strong connection with the Keweenaw Industrial Council , the Michigan Economic Development Corporation , and other organizations in support of regional economic development.
